About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support its Oak Ridge office. The intern will support the design and analysis of building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities, assisting senior engineers with HVAC, ductwork, piping, and plumbing system design, engineering calculations, drawing development, and construction support. The role collaborates with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality design packages while following Amentum’s engineering procedures and quality standards.

Requirements

Be enrolled in a B.S. Mechanical Engineering program accredited by ABET.
Be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials or authorization; U.S. citizenship is required for facility credentials or authorization at this work location.
Be able to work in a group of engineers and designers to complete technical portions of projects within established budgets and schedules.
Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Assist engineers with the design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
Perform basic engineering calculations under direct supervision, including heating and cooling load calculations, pipe and duct sizing, and equipment selection support.
Maintain organized project files, drawings, and documentation.
Follow established quality assurance programs and procedures.
Work with engineers and designers to complete technical portions of projects within established budgets and schedules.
