About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer 2 will work at ULA’s production facility in Decatur, Alabama, designing and implementing manufacturing processes, procedures, and planning for multiple build items supporting factory assembly areas. The role develops sequences of operations and hardware procedures for work centers, checks machinery and tools for efficiency, and helps ensure manufacturing processes comply with regulations and meet product design requirements.

The engineer collaborates with design and quality engineers, production operations, technicians, and other functions to resolve manufacturing issues, maintain production schedules and product quality, support build activities, and drive continuous improvement. The role also implements Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOM). Extended hours, weekends, and off shifts may be required to support testing and production delivery activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
• At least 2 years of related work experience.
• Previous exposure to reading blueprints.
• Understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Attention to detail and ability to document observations and findings.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and off shifts as necessary to support testing and production delivery activities.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by ITAR, because the position requires use of information subject to the International Traffic In Arms Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement manufacturing processes, procedures, and planning for multiple build items supporting factory assembly areas.
• Design sequences of operations and specific procedures for hardware in work centers.
• Inspect machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency.
• Investigate problems and deficiencies and initiate corrective action to ensure product quality.
• Provide engineering guidance on design concepts and specification requirements to make effective use of equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Ensure processes and procedures comply with regulations.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure products meet design requirements and can be manufactured efficiently.
• Work with quality engineering and production operations to initiate corrective action for problems and deficiencies.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues to help keep production on schedule.
• Work closely with technicians during builds and support process improvements.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities to completion.
• Collaborate with multiple functions across the organization to perform job duties.
• Implement Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOM).
