About The Position

Above Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (ME) to contribute to and support HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Process, and Utility Engineering efforts for the firm. The ideal candidate will be a graduated engineer from an ABET accredited institution who will directly contribute to the Firm's success through engineering and design efforts. This role also involves contributing to team growth by leading and mentoring others in expanding their capabilities and contributions. The ME will execute engineering and design duties as required to ensure quality products. The position requires the ability to combine personal judgment with project information and knowledge of codes and standards to implement design criteria. Expertise in fire protection, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems is essential, with knowledge and experience in hydronic systems being a plus. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in healthcare facilities and central plant infrastructure (boiler systems, chilled water systems). Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or eQuest is required, and knowledge of Microsoft Projects, AFT Arrow, Fathom, and Caesar is a plus. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and as an individual, communicating well with others. The ability to interpret information from a Scope of Work, Basis of Design, field surveys, and code research is necessary. Project involvement will include being the engineer of record from concept phase through construction documents and construction administration. The ME will also direct and mentor subordinate staff on their daily responsibilities. As a Mechanical Designer, the role involves experience with Psychrometric Chart, Ductulator, and Pipe Flow. The candidate will design the layout of distribution systems and equipment locations in coordination with team members within the discipline and in other disciplines. Proficiency with design drawing software including Revit and AutoCAD is required, with proficiency in Creo Parametric being a plus. The ME will perform system calculations, size, and select system components. Responsibilities also include reviewing shop drawing submittals and traveling to job sites to perform field verification. The role also develops organizational skills including technical writing and time management, requiring excellent writing skills to author basis of design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, Engineering Reports, and other technical written documents. The ME will also edit design specifications, respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), and prepare meeting notes, while reading relevant project correspondence and maintaining project design files.

Requirements

  • Graduated engineer from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience (post degree) working for an MEP Engineering Firm or an AE Firm.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License (EIT will be taken into consideration).
  • Current/Active NCEES registration in good standing.
  • Proficient in REVIT.
  • Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with hydronic systems.
  • Experience with healthcare facilities, and central plant infrastructure (boiler systems, chilled water systems).
