About The Position

FreePower is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join their team. This role will be instrumental in the design, development, and prototyping of innovative hardware products. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to final production, and will thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting. FreePower is developing advanced wireless power technology for true free-position charging, integrating complex electrical, mechanical, and software systems into user-friendly products for various applications like countertops, furniture, and consumer electronics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in mechanical/product design
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools (3D printing, laser cutting, machining, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing, and mechanical design principles
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and moldability considerations
  • Familiarity with injection molding, sheet metal design, and/or tooling processes
  • Experience with stepper motors and linear motion systems
  • Ability to move quickly from concept to prototype with attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with consumer electronics or hardware startups
  • Experience with mechanical shops and equipment for prototyping
  • Knowledge of thermal design or structural analysis
  • Experience working with external manufacturers and overseas vendors
  • Basic understanding of electronics packaging and integration

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (primarily SolidWorks)
  • Build and iterate prototypes using in-house tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and general shop equipment
  • Translate concepts into manufacturable designs with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Develop enclosures, packaging solutions, and structural components for consumer and industrial products
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (electrical, firmware, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless product integration
  • Support vendor engagement, including part sourcing, fabrication, and tooling discussions
  • Conduct testing, validation, and iterative improvements based on performance and reliability data
