About The Position

HNTB is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering group. The selected individual will be involved with the design, inspection, and construction support of a wide variety of mechanical systems from fire protection, HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings, bridges and transit facilities, to machinery on heavy movable structures such as drawbridges, inspection travelers, and funiculars. The individual will work closely with and support the Mechanical Technical Leads in delivering high quality, code compliant system designs and project tasks. Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams composed of architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, including contractors to ensure seamless system integration throughout all project phases, from concept through construction and commissioning. Develop and apply a strong understanding of mechanical and machine design principles, including system selection, equipment design, and regulatory requirements. Candidate to have good knowledge of building mechanical systems and/or machine design for large heavy equipment and movable structures. This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects, review of codes and standards, design of components and systems as well as shop drawing review. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients. The selected candidate will be located in our New York, NY office in the Empire State Building. HNTB does not pay for relocation or housing for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience
  • Exhibits proficiency in applying engineering, geometric and algebraic principles in your work.
  • Displays proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD or other software as required for job assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • BSME Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or progress toward PE licensure
  • Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD/MicroStation for design and documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills both verbal and written

Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.
  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
