About The Position

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Engineer opportunity to support an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project. The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform engineering work. This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignments of intermediate complexity. Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, the role involves analyzing and making independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements. The Mechanical Engineer will develop and review specifications and design criteria, perform and check engineering analyses and calculations, specify materials, equipment and systems, and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity. This role also requires coordinating technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients, executing work in compliance with the Project Quality Plan and procedures, and executing work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will establish, control and report on material key quantities, provide analysis and forecasts, and provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting, including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations and review of vendor submittments. Technical support will also be provided for activities associated with construction administration, including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum five (5) years of work- related experience
Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
Intermediate knowledge of discipline codes and standards
Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Experience providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on commercial or industrial projects
Proficiency executing EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools in a multi-discipline environment
Demonstrated design experience in areas such as mechanical systems and equipment design and specification
Demonstrated proficiency with 2D CADD applications such as Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD

Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of ASME NQA-1
Practical field experience
EPC project experience for the following industries: U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency, Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program, Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
Intermediate knowledge of: Equipment specification development, Instrumentation and controls (I&C) requirements for packaged equipment, Design of mechanical equipment through all stages of a project from conceptual phase to design development, construction, and commissioning, Mechanical equipment in one or more of the following specialties: rotating equipment, pressure vessels, unfired and fired heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, or metallurgy and welding

Responsibilities

Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements
Develop and review specifications and design criteria
Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity
Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines
Establish, control and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations and review of vendor submittals
Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
Prepare and review calculations and specifications for equipment in support of Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
Establish equipment requirements and prepare equipment data sheets for mechanical equipment including unfired and fired heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, pressure vessels, pumps and compressors, or packaged equipment
Evaluate dimensions, equipment connections, and equipment performance including pressure profiles, heat transfer rates, and off-design cases
Provide equipment sizing and application support to project development or process
Participate in material selection for equipment
Develop and revise equipment lists, narrative specifications, equipment standards, equipment general arrangement and outline drawings
Participate in supplier/contractor bid clarification, negotiation, and/or award meetings
Represent Mechanical in model reviews and closely monitor 3D equipment modeling activities
Provide consultation during fabrication and witness testing of equipment
Provide consultation and/or on-site assistance for the installation, commissioning, and/or startup of equipment
