About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Orlando, FL office. This role involves leading and supporting the design of HVAC and mechanical systems across various project types, including commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects. The engineer will be responsible for preparing calculations, equipment selection, layout design, and technical specifications. This position requires coordination with architects, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and internal MEP disciplines. Additionally, the role involves managing project aspects such as scope, schedule, and budget, serving as a client contact, and supporting business development efforts. Ensuring design quality through QA/QC processes and adherence to codes is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Familiarity with Florida codes and local AHJ coordination
  • Experience with HVAC systems (airside, hydronic, ventilation, controls coordination)
  • Experience with Plumbing systems (water, sanitary, gas)
  • Experience with Energy compliance tools (e.g., COMcheck or similar)
  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM-based design

  • 7+ years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility
  • Experience managing projects and directly interfacing with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and contribute to winning work

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems from concept through construction across commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects
  • Prepare and coordinate load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork/piping layouts, and technical specifications
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, AHJs, and internal MEP disciplines
  • Manage portions of projects as a task manager or project manager, including scope, schedule, and budget
  • Serve as a primary client contact for portions of projects and support overall client relationship management
  • Oversee and mentor EITs, designers, and technical staff
  • Support and participate in RFQs/RFPs, proposals, and business development efforts
  • Ensure design quality through QA/QC processes and adherence to applicable codes (FBC, energy compliance, etc.)
