The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work within the System Electronics Mechanical team, which designs pilot inceptors, an air data probe, and computer assemblies across the S4 aircraft, as well as next-generation perception suites for future autonomous aircraft. The role involves owning mechanical designs from concept through certification and collaborating across functions to deliver safe, lightweight, and reliable electromechanical assemblies. The internship is available in Summer 2027.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Entering the junior or senior year of an undergraduate degree or above at the time of the internship.
  • Available for Summer 2027.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks for complex surfacing, part design, and assemblies.
  • Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with low-voltage and high-voltage electromechanical designs.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, or SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Own designs across concept and certification phases.
  • Conduct rapid prototyping and development testing.
  • Perform mass optimization, stress analysis, and thermal analysis.
  • Troubleshoot issues in manufacturing, testing, and field operations.
