About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work within Joby’s System Electronics Mechanical team. The team designs pilot inceptors, an air data probe, and computer assemblies across the S4 aircraft, and mechanically designs next-generation perception suites for autonomy in future aircraft. The intern will contribute to designs through concept and certification phases, working across disciplines to develop safe, lightweight, and reliable electromechanical assemblies for aircraft.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • At the time of the internship, be entering junior or senior undergraduate year or be at a higher academic level.
  • Available during Summer 2027.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks for complex surfacing, part design, and assemblies.
  • Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with low-voltage and high-voltage electromechanical designs.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, or SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Own designs across concept and certification phases.
  • Conduct rapid prototyping and development testing.
  • Perform mass optimization, stress analysis, and thermal analysis.
