About The Position

PAE is seeking a motivated and inquisitive Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 program. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in sustainable engineering design within the building design industry. Interns will work directly as part of engineering and design teams, gaining exposure to the entire design process from planning and execution to problem-solving, on projects ranging from small retrofits to high-profile Living Buildings. The program focuses on the PAE and LUMA approach to sustainable engineering.

Requirements

• 3rd year undergraduate student preferred
• Desire to work in the Building Design industry
• Passionate about sustainable design solutions
• Effective communicator
• Mechanical Coursework: Thermodynamics
• Mechanical Coursework: Fluid Dynamics
• Mechanical Coursework: Heat Transfer
• Mechanical Coursework: Building Sciences (Preferred)
• Mechanical Coursework: HVAC (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• CAD and Revit
• Energy modeling
• Design calculations
• Design layout of HVAC ductwork, hydronic, and plumbing
• Construction administration and site visits
• Commissioning
• Weather and climatic data gathering, support on eco-charrettes
• Energy and water data (EUI, WUI) analysis
• General project timeline/overview
• Specifications
• Site Visits/Site Observation Reports
• Cost estimate review/preparation
• M/E coordination schedule
