AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to be based in our Atlanta, GA office. The Mechanical Engineer III will work independently with limited supervision to complete small and large project HVAC design requirements. The Mechanical Engineer III will be responsible for performing specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer, gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, and working on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests. This role involves proposing approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments, identifying discrepancies in results, and providing guidance to entry-level engineers. The engineer will perform work adhering to the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision, independently completing all tasks necessary to finalize primary design elements for engineering works. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position. The role involves developing all aspects of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems design for government and commercial buildings, using commercially available engineering software, and evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and judgment based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings. The engineer will concisely express complex system solutions in very early design phases, coordinate HVAC systems with other disciplines, perform site/field visits to ascertain existing conditions including equipment condition evaluations, and make design decisions and recommendations with little input from senior staff. Responsibilities also include reviewing and approving shop drawings, responding to RFI’s, and other construction admin-related tasks, organizing and planning projects to ensure quality controls and project criteria are met and within budget, performing self-checks of work products before submission, maintaining accurate project documentation and design data, and attending project meetings. The role also includes assisting with mentoring of junior staff.
