About The Position

This role serves as a Mechanical Project Engineer, providing essential support across the construction, installation, debugging, and startup phases of equipment and automated systems. The position requires hands-on involvement at both domestic and international manufacturing sites, with the majority of time spent on the factory floor working directly with equipment. The engineer will supervise and direct internal or contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance staff, and external contract trades throughout all stages of equipment installation and conversion, including demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debugging of production equipment.

Requirements

BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 3+ years of manufacturing experience working with manufacturing equipment.
Ability to work hands-on with equipment using typical hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices.
Flexibility and ability to manage multiple work streams in a team environment, adapting to changing priorities.
Strong focus on job site safety and a proactive safety approach.
Understanding of process variables: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level.
Ability to determine and recommend the best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelines.
Skill in translating engineering solutions into requirements, then into process and/or equipment designs that meet performance criteria.
Ability to interpret drawings and schematics for troubleshooting.
Proficiency in working with other disciplines (IT, Mechanical, Process Engineering) to understand manufacturing system functionality and design requirements.
Familiarity with process piping system design, including P&IDs.
Thorough understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Self-starter with a results-oriented approach.
Effective in various settings to provide and present necessary information to project, department, and site leaders.

Nice To Haves

Experience with equipment or software such as AutoCAD®, Inventor, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and MS Project.
Experience working on a manufacturing floor or in a construction environment, with a strong focus on job site safety and a proactive safety approach.

Effective communication and presentation skills.
Project management experience, including developing project scope, budgets, and schedules.
Knowledge of the Optical Fiber manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

Develop and utilize project plans and timelines to achieve project goals while prioritizing safety, intellectual property, and quality.
Ensure all project team members have safety training, conduct safety analyses in job plans, and meet all safety requirements.
Identify potential safety issues and report/investigate all safety incidents.
Develop an understanding of process and equipment functions within the area of responsibility.
Analyze and correct equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies, focusing on enhancing installation schedules.
Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation costs, resolve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs.
Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to ensure successful delivery of integrated process equipment systems on time, within budget, and meeting performance measures.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting, directing engineering technicians and trades as needed to replace defective components and implement changes to resolve equipment/process issues.
Provide training to internal/contract engineering technicians, internal maintenance, and outside contract trades on new equipment installation procedures.
Review, 'redline', and modify existing installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, machine specifications, schedules, and complete drawing packages, coordinating with drafting services.
Provide direction to technicians.
Create and modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specifications for production equipment.
Procure and expedite materials required for building or installing new or modified equipment.
Assess the condition and usability of existing equipment for compatibility with new installation plans.
