Mechanical Engineer III

Briggs & StrattonMilwaukee, WI

About The Position

As the Mechanical Engineer III, you will be responsible for advanced noise, vibration, and fatigue testing to support the development of smoother, quieter, and more reliable products. This role utilizes state-of-the-art MTS hydraulic equipment and electro-dynamic shakers to simulate full-life structural validation. The incumbent will lead the transition toward data-driven design by integrating field data acquisition with advanced CAE simulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in NVH, Fatigue, or Structural Dynamics.
  • Proficiency in Siemens SimCenter Test Lab or equivalent DAQ systems.
  • Hands-on experience with MTS hydraulic controllers and Electro-Dynamic shakers.
  • Understanding of and high-voltage battery and electric motor system characteristics.
  • Advanced knowledge of Fatigue Damage and Reliability Analysis (Weibull).

Responsibilities

  • Lead lab and field test projects using multi-channel instrumentation, including strain gauging, accelerometers, microphones, load cells, and CAN-bus.
  • Perform Field Data Replication (FDR) Analysis to convert raw field data into accelerated laboratory test profiles (PSD/FDS).
  • Execute Modal Analysis, Transfer Path Analysis (TPA), and Sound Quality Analysis to optimize the acoustic signature of Engines and Outdoor Power Equipment.
  • Correlate physical test data with FEA and 1-D system modeling to predict fatigue life and resolve resonance issues.
  • Lead structural validation of components and assemblies using MTS hydraulic equipment and specialized software.
  • Manage EU Noise Compliance testing, ensuring all procedures meet the documentation standards required by our Notified Body.
  • Proactively identify failure modes in new battery and engine designs prior to field release through rigorous Reliability and Fatigue Damage Analysis.
