  • Experience independently leading equipment installations, line modifications or conversions, mechanical troubleshooting, qualification, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to create and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment documentation, specifications, layouts, and technical requirements.
  • Working knowledge of project planning, vendor/contractor coordination, and engineering change-management practices.
  • Strong mechanical engineering, problem-solving, project leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in optical fiber, wire and cable, extrusion, plastics processing, or another continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading capital projects, manufacturing-line upgrades, equipment conversions, qualifications, or reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with CAD systems and engineering documentation tools.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design calculations and applicable machine-safety standards.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, reliability-centered maintenance, or structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Understanding of automation and controls interfaces within manufacturing equipment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or progress toward licensure is a plus.
  • Experience with data analytics and statistical packages such as JMP.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead moderate-to-large and technically complex equipment debugging, qualification, capacity expansion, and process-improvement projects.
  • Act as the mechanical technical lead for assigned initiatives and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Develop equipment specifications, mechanical scope documents, layouts, calculations, utility requirements, installation plans, debug plans, and qualification acceptance criteria.
  • Design and implement modifications to new and existing manufacturing lines to support new products, process capability, capacity expansion, and waste reduction.
  • Lead mechanical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment, process, quality, and safety issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Provide technical oversight of vendors, fabricators, contractors, and integrators; review submittals and resolve design issues.
  • Lead installation, commissioning, startup troubleshooting, equipment qualification, and transition to operations.
  • Verify mechanical fit-up, utilities, guarding, access, ergonomics, maintainability, and interfaces with automation and controls.
  • Apply reliability, maintainability, ergonomics, guarding, and lifecycle-cost principles to equipment designs and selections.
  • Use operating data and field observations to identify improvement opportunities and quantify results related to uptime, throughput, scrap, quality, safety, capacity, and maintenance costs.
  • Manage project risks, action items, technical changes, deliverables, and status communications for assigned mechanical scope.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, process engineering, controls, quality, EHS, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians through design reviews, troubleshooting, and project execution.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, lessons learned, design reviews, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
