The Mechanical Engineer II designs and develops mechanical components and subsystems for Divergent’s internally developed Monolith One laser powder bed fusion platform, printers in the same class, next-generation platforms, and adjacent equipment. This hands-on engineering role delivers defined mechanical design efforts from concept through detailed design, build, testing, and release. Working with senior engineers and cross-functional teams, the engineer applies sound engineering fundamentals, solves technical problems, and contributes to the development, reliability, and continuous improvement of complex industrial equipment. The role owns assigned components and subsystems through concept development, detailed design, prototyping, validation, release, and integration. It translates established technical and operational requirements into practical designs, develops CAD models and drawings, performs GD&T and tolerance analyses, prepares engineering calculations and bills of material, selects components, and evaluates tradeoffs in performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and schedule. The engineer identifies risks and validates designs through analysis, prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and iteration. The Mechanical Engineer II collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues and implement designs. The role maintains technical documentation, executes engineering changes, supports procurement and manufacturing planning, and assists with machine integration, troubleshooting, fleet investigations, and root-cause improvements. It also contributes to design reviews, continuous improvement, and future printer platforms and subsystems. This is an on-site role across office, laboratory, prototype-build, and manufacturing-floor environments. Work involves regular interaction with industrial equipment and may include moving machinery, elevated noise, metal powders, inert gas systems, lasers, and high-power electrical equipment. Required PPE and EHS controls apply. Occasional travel and schedule flexibility may be required during critical design, build, integration, testing, or commissioning activities.
