About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer II designs, develops, tests, and certifies complex mechanical systems for aerospace and defense applications. The role works with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs meet stringent performance and quality standards, with a focus on mechanical components and systems for ground-based defense applications. The position is part of SNC’s ISR, Aviation, and Security business area, which provides manned and unmanned aircraft systems and end-to-end C4ISR capabilities, including design, integration, test, certification, training, and logistics support. The position applies engineering analysis and simulation, generates fabrication and integration drawings, prepares technical documentation, and collaborates across disciplines to integrate designs into larger systems. Designs must meet applicable industry standards and program requirements. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for this position. Occasional travel may be required, and the work may be performed in an office or hybrid environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related role; a higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Proficient understanding of mechanical design principles and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Familiarity working in multidisciplinary design and development teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to understand technical documents, designs, and test reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, including parametric design, model-based definition, material and hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes.
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements for components used in ground vehicle and support equipment platforms.
  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to a diverse team of engineers on mechanical engineering issues.
  • Experience with manufacturing, production, and product support, including disposition of engineering non-conformances.
  • Familiarity with FAA, NASA, and/or DoD design and construction regulations.
  • Experience with ruggedized or armored vehicles.
  • Experience designing for Full Rate Production.
  • Experience with welded structures and design, including applying and interpreting weld symbols per AWS D1 for steel materials.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for ground-based defense applications.
  • Conduct detailed analyses and simulations to validate and optimize designs.
  • Generate engineering drawings for part fabrication and system integration.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation and reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs into overall systems.
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards and program requirements.
  • Apply systematic and logical problem-solving techniques to develop mechanical designs.
  • Communicate technical information, design specifications, and project updates to team members, stakeholders, and management.
