Tata Consulting Engineers USA, LLC, (TCE), is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries. TCE is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer II to join our Baton Rouge, LA office. This individual will support mechanical equipment design and specification for projects in oil, gas, specialty chemicals, energy transition, and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and two to four years of relevant industry experience. Prior experience in the EPCm industry or supporting projects at client facilities is preferred. This role offers an opportunity to develop technical expertise through equipment selection, procurement support, vendor coordination, and field assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in the oil, gas, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, or related industrial sectors.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, industry codes, and equipment design practices.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing equipment specifications, data sheets, calculations, and vendor documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks while maintaining awareness of project scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites, vendor facilities, and other project locations as required.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Baton Rouge area.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training certification or progress toward obtaining certification.
  • Experience working in a consulting engineering or EPCm environment.
  • Experience supporting engineering projects at client or industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction support, and commissioning activities.
  • Experience with rotating equipment, fixed equipment, packaged equipment, or materials handling systems.
  • Experience preparing purchase requisitions, evaluating vendor bids, and reviewing vendor drawings.
  • Familiarity with applicable mechanical engineering codes and standards.
  • Field experience at refining, petrochemical, specialty chemical, LNG, midstream, terminal, power, or other heavy industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical documentation with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Support the selection and specification of mechanical equipment in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and client standards.
  • Develop inquiry and purchase requisitions and assist with technical bid evaluations.
  • Review vendor proposals, drawings, and technical documents for compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordinate with vendors and multidisciplinary project teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and maintain mechanical equipment lists and project records.
  • Participate in vendor inspections, client meetings, site visits, and field assignments as required.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and start-up activities when assigned.
  • Maintain awareness of project scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Apply safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering principles in the execution of assigned work.
  • Communicate progress, concerns, and technical issues to the supervising engineer and project team.
  • Perform work under the guidance and supervision of experienced engineers and Professional Engineers.
  • Comply with all TCE policies, procedures, operating guidelines, and quality management requirements.
