Mechanical Engineer I
About The Position
Development of engineering design data within budget in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), customer and company standards of quality. This role involves providing technical support for various projects, researching, preparing, and reviewing engineering data such as drawings, plans, reports, work instructions, and manuals. The engineer will develop and produce design data for the manufacture, assembly, and installation of aircraft components, perform various selection and analysis studies (spring, fastener, tolerance, weight, cost), and develop preliminary engineering analysis for component design and tolerance analysis. The position requires interfacing with other departments, attending design review meetings, and providing technical support to the Operations team during manufacturing and assembly. The role also involves supporting other Engineering groups, adhering to internal policies, and contributing to the continuous improvement of department procedures. The engineer will work on complex design tasks with assistance.
Requirements
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of experience and coursework.
- Training and experience utilizing Solidworks (or comparable Computer Aided Design program) with demonstrable proficiency.
- Must possess knowledge of engineering principles used in stress analysis, finite element modeling (FEM), 3D-computer modeling, and other analytical substantiation techniques.
- Must possess extensive knowledge of personal computer systems with Microsoft Office.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills, along with good organizational skills, and be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Nice To Haves
- One (1) year industry experience in an engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft.
- Basic knowledge of FAA regulations, certification processes and related requirements.
- Basic knowledge of standard aircraft components, materials, fabrication practices, aviation hardware and proper application in design.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to complete various projects.
- Research, prepare and review engineering data (drawings, plans / reports, work instructions, various manuals, etc.) in support of design assignments.
- Develop and produce design data required for the proper manufacture, assembly and installation of aircraft assemblies and components.
- Perform spring, fastener selections, tolerance studies, weight and cost studies or other assigned assessments.
- Develop preliminary engineering analysis necessary to substantiate components design and tolerance analysis.
- Interface with other departments to ensure customer & company requirements are met.
- Attend design review meetings with fellow staff.
- Provide technical support to Operations team during the manufacturing and assembly phases of developed designs.
- Support other Engineering groups as workload requirements dictate.
- Become familiar with and adhere to internal policies and procedures.
- Provide input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures, controls, flows and systems.
- Work on complex design tasks with assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
