About The Position

Raytheon Intelligence & Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its space mechanisms team in El Segundo, California. The engineer will support mechanisms development, integration, and test across multiple space programs, performing mechanical component and mechanisms design for opto-mechanical systems using Creo. The role also supports assembly, integration, and testing of EO/IR space hardware in a laboratory environment, in collaboration with junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers. The engineer creates and revises opto-mechanical designs and drawings, prepares assembly instructions, supports builds with technicians and other engineering disciplines, and applies design-for-producibility and manufacturability principles. The role includes presenting work for peer review, researching tribology and applying kinematics to the design and analysis of mechanical assemblies, and producing detailed drawings with GD&T. The engineer works with cross-functional engineering and analysis teams on material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing schedule constraints. The position also involves managing design changes through a product data management tool, including design creation, rework, and revisions. The role is primarily onsite and requires at least 10% travel to suppliers and production facilities, including domestic and international travel. U.S. citizenship is required to access information under the program/contract. No security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major, obtained by the start date.
  • Experience in the design and development of mechanical hardware.
  • Experience with CAD software, such as Creo.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to access information under the program/contract.
