Mechanical Engineer I (Onsite)
About The Position
This position is for a Mechanical Engineer within the Engineering Development Program (EDP) at RTX, specifically at Pratt & Whitney. The EDP is a rotational program designed to accelerate professional growth and build technical and leadership capabilities through three rotational assignments. The role involves playing a critical part in the design and development of next-generation military exhaust systems or combustors. As a Mechanical Designer, you will work onsite and collaborate cross-functionally as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT), including specialists in project management, structural engineering, aero-thermal analysis, and product definition. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of advanced engine hardware to support development engine testing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
- Experience with CAD (Siemens NX or Solidworks).
- Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
- Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with gas turbine exhaust, augmenter systems, or combustors.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated communication and collaboration capabilities in a team.
- Ability to work onsite and interface with hands-on engineering and testing teams.
- Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.
Responsibilities
- Participate in rotational assignments to gain technical depth and leadership skills through the EDP.
- Design and develop military exhaust components, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary IPT members to deliver integrated hardware solutions.
- Support validation and testing activities for development engines.
- Apply engineering principles to solve complex mechanical challenges in high-temperature environments.
