About The Position

The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The Hardware Engineering team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. Hardware Engineering’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical and electrical design, development, and integration of a diverse set of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The USS department is looking for full-time Mechanical Engineering I, located in Portsmouth, RI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Ocean Engineering (STEM)
  • Experience with CAD modeling software
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging.
  • Knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience on DoD programs.
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation
  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional.
