About The Position

The Airborne Radar Design Department is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Subsystem & Power Products Engineering section in El Segundo, CA. The person in this position will be involved in electronics packaging design and production support for Airborne Radar Subsystems including AESA Antenna, Receiver, Exciter, Processor and Power Supply subsystems. Tasks will include mechanical engineering support throughout the hardware life cycle, including concept development, preliminary and detail design, selection of precision machining techniques, transition to production, production support and installation. Typical technologies include electronic enclosures, heat exchangers (coldwalls), machined components, RF microwave assemblies, and power converter units, often with challenging size, weight, power, and cost requirements. Early emphasis will be on production support of radar assembly and integration. This will include resolving production assembly issues on the lab floor, working with suppliers on manufacturing issues, documenting changes to the technical data package (TDP), and more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related (STEM) major obtained by start date.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling software.
  • Experience with CREO
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with CREO or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Exposure to RF principles, RF circuit card design, RF materials, manufacturing and producibility.
  • Exposure to high-frequency environments, enclosure design, EMI shielding, and thermal management.
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes for CCAs, metal housings, and brazements, or experience in manufacturing and assembly support.
  • Strong technical background with high technical aptitude.
  • Hands-on mechanical project experience.
  • Possess an active security clearance.
  • Ability to travel as needed to work on production support.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on major airborne radar programs and interface with Lead Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and Chief Engineers to support design objectives.
  • Resolve issues with subsystems found during assembly and integration.
  • Resolve issues with suppliers making subsystem parts.
  • Update the technical data package (TDP) to document any needed changes discovered during issue resolution.
  • Prepare documentation for Engineering Review Board (ERB) and Change Control Board (CCB).
  • Make approved changes to TDP using Computer Aided Design tools.
  • Process Supplier Change Request Notifications (SCRNs) to determine if changes requested by supplier do not alter design intent of parts being manufactured.
