About the position
Helion is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Everett, WA. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing hardware designs for Helion's fusion generator prototypes and solving versatile engineering problems related to deploying fusion energy. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced technicians, learn from experts, and expand engineering skillset and domain knowledge. The ideal candidate should have 1-2 years of collegiate internship or project team experience, a bachelor's degree in engineering, hands-on exposure to various engineering disciplines, and proficiency in CAD software. The pay range for this position is $95k-145k.
Responsibilities
- Oversee hardware designs for Helion's fusion generator prototypes
- Solve versatile engineering problems related to deploying fusion energy
- Be a culture-driver on a small but expanding team
- Own and understand subsystem designs such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal, and control systems, and improve their requirements
- Learn from historical engineering approaches, design novel hardware, and test solutions
- Apply both engineering first-principles and method-based thinking to challenging problems
- Use CAD software (e.g., NX, Solidworks) to design fusion hardware
- Perform analysis with tools like ANSYS and hold design reviews to gather feedback and iterate to a fully functioning system
- Learn from experts to expand engineering skillset and domain knowledge
- Work hands-on alongside experienced technicians to improve hardware designs
- Fix hardware issues as they arise on integrated fusion generators
Requirements
- 1-2 years of collegiate internship or project team experience (e.g. SAE, Rocket Club) that includes working with versatile teams managing complex engineering projects and schedules
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with a GPA of 3.25 or above
- Hands-on exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids)
- Experience with CAD software (e.g. NX, Solidworks) and GD&T
