About the position
Helion, a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, is seeking a CAD Designer to join their Engineering Team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating 3D models and technical drawings for their products, collaborating with engineers to ensure design feasibility, and managing upper-level assemblies for their fusion machine, Polaris. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or 5+ years of industry experience in CAD software and assembly management. Proficiency in CAD software, PLM systems, GD&T standards, and knowledge of manufacturing processes are also required.
Responsibilities
- Design high-quality 3D models using CAD software, such as NX or SolidWorks
- Create detailed technical drawings and specifications for production
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure design and production feasibility
- Manage upper-level assemblies for our next-generation fusion machine, Polaris
- Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to improve design and production
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or 5+ years of industry experience in CAD software and assembly management
- Expert proficiency in CAD software, such as NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, with an ability to create complex models and drawings
- Advanced experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software systems, and experience managing high-level bills of material through multiple phases of the development cycle
- Advanced familiarity with GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) standards, with an ability to apply these standards to complex designs
- Experience with product design in the energy, aerospace, or manufacturing industries
- Understanding of Mechanical and Structural fundamentals, with an ability to use hand-calculations and tolerance stack-ups to validate designs
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials, with a focus on optimizing for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
