About The Position

ABGi USA is recruiting on behalf of one of our clients for a Mechanical Drafter to join their engineering team in Sun Valley, California. Our client is an established global manufacturer and engineering organization specializing in advanced automated welding and precision industrial equipment. Their technology supports customers across highly technical industries, including aerospace, semiconductor, power generation, pharmaceutical, and industrial manufacturing. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on Mechanical Drafter who enjoys working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams and wants to continue developing their mechanical design expertise within a specialized technical environment. The Mechanical Drafter will work closely with and provide direct support to a Mechanical Designer, assisting with the development and maintenance of mechanical drawings, 3D models, Bills of Materials, and engineering documentation. The selected candidate will receive training on the company's specific design standards, drawing conventions, products, and internal workflows, with the opportunity to take on increased ownership as they become familiar with the organization's processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on SolidWorks drafting/design experience
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in Mechanical Drafting, Mechanical Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawing fundamentals, including tolerancing, dimensioning, and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Excellent attention to detail with a highly organized approach to documentation
  • Comfortable working within a small, collaborative engineering team and taking direction from a senior designer
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, and/or welded assemblies
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems or drawing revision-control processes
  • Experience or interest in welding, fabrication, industrial equipment, or precision manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain 2D detail and assembly drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks
  • Translate design concepts, redlines, and sketches into accurate, production-ready drawings and models
  • Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part/drawing numbering
  • Apply dimensioning, tolerancing, and basic GD&T conventions
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and drawing/model revision control
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure drawings are clear, buildable, and inspection-ready
  • Learn and progressively adopt internal design methodologies, drafting standards, and documentation processes
  • Assist with additional engineering design and documentation needs as required
