About The Position

GEM Technologies is seeking a full-time Mechanical Designer to support Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The position supports Q-20, the W93/Mk7 Systems Development and Realization Group, which defines, develops, and fields the warhead system for a Navy submarine-launched ballistic missile program. The group supports DoD/Navy SSP and DoE/NNSA customers in defining mission needs and technical and programmatic requirements, collaborates with Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin Space, and works with production agency teams across the National Security Enterprise on design, qualification, and realization. The Mechanical Designer guides multidisciplinary teams through design iterations to address potential engineering defects and develops technical solutions to complex or unique problems, using ingenuity, creativity, and independence. The role also involves mentoring junior staff in models-based definition and GD&T. The position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, science, mathematics, or a related field, plus at least eight years of relevant experience; additional relevant experience may be considered instead of a degree. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain and maintain a government-issued clearance if needed. GEM offers a choice of benefit packages, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, paid holidays, life insurance, and a matching 401(k).

  • Experience checking Creo models and drawings for form, fit, and function and models-based definition (MBD).
  • Experience conducting tolerance and stack analyses and complying with current design standards.
  • Proven mechanical design experience ensuring product definition meets requirements and producibility goals while reducing rejected products.
  • Knowledge and experience with MBD to recommend best practices or improvements while maintaining compliance with NNSA, LANL, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 standards, especially Y14.5-2009 and Y14.41 MBD.
  • Experience developing and interpreting 3D CAD model standards, practices, and procedures for communicating design intent within and across National Security Enterprise organizations.
