About The Position

OPEX Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Designer for its World Headquarters in Moorestown, New Jersey. This is a full-time, first-shift role in an engineering and manufacturing environment. The designer will work with Mechanical Engineers and cross-functional teams to develop practical, efficient, and robust mechanical design solutions, supporting work from concept through prototype development, testing, design revision, and production release. The role includes both CAD and hands-on work with prototype and production equipment, parts, and assemblies.

Requirements

  • Technical school degree in design or engineering technology, an associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks, including creating and modifying 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and assembly methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on design validation and work with prototype and production equipment.
  • Ability to use basic shop tools, hand tools, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment while following safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical design tasks while considering cost, manufacturability, fabrication methods, assembly, serviceability, reliability, and long-term equipment performance.
  • Create and maintain part and assembly models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, design revisions, and production-release documentation.
  • Own assigned tasks from concept through design completion, prototype build, testing, revision, and production release.
  • Manage workload and schedules, coordinate priorities with Mechanical Engineers, and meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Provide clear and timely project updates to Mechanical Engineers, Managers, and Project Coordinators.
  • Gather information from engineers, technicians, machinists, assemblers, production personnel, and other departments as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, seek feedback, build consensus on design solutions, and support project objectives.
  • Prepare for and participate in design reviews, communicate design intent, document feedback, and identify next actions.
  • Dimension mechanical parts consistently while considering cost, manufacturability, inspection, assembly, and serviceability.
  • Validate designs hands-on by installing parts, checking fit and alignment, testing form, fit, and function, identifying issues, and making design improvements.
  • Support machine builds, mechanical assembly, equipment adjustments, troubleshooting, and design validation on prototype and production equipment.
  • Fabricate, modify, rework, and support development of prototype components, brackets, guards, fixtures, test stands, and other mechanical parts.
  • Use basic shop, hand, measuring, and fabrication tools while following applicable safety procedures.
  • Evaluate parts and assemblies in the physical machine environment to confirm designs are practical, buildable, serviceable, and robust.
  • Prepare and maintain bills of materials, assembly drawings, part drawings, and related documentation before production release.
  • Work with other departments during product development, prototype testing, production ramp-up, and field-support activities.

Benefits
