About The Position

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for design engineering aspects of developing, improving, and supporting product lines as assigned. Primary responsibilities include conceptualization, modeling, drawing, testing, and release of mechanical components and assemblies.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design Technology with 5-10 years of design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • General design, 3D modeling, and drafting experience required.
  • Word processing and spreadsheet proficiency.
  • A working knowledge of design for manufacturing methods including sheet metal fabrication, stamping, welding, assembly, and machining.
  • Good oral, written, organizational, leadership, time management, and communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with accurate and complete results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with team members throughout the organization.
  • Ability to participate in and/or conduct prototyping, testing, and reporting of results.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes and lean manufacturing.

Nice To Haves

  • CREO (Pro-engineering) sheet metal modeling experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel to obtain customer or vendor input for design and development (up to 10%).

Responsibilities

  • Utilize CREO (ProEngineer) to generate solid models and drawings to accurately document product designs
  • Collaborate with project engineers, design engineers, and manufacturing engineers to design new products by providing ideas, concepts, basic analysis, and performance testing
  • Responsible for detail design definition and documentation, including dimensioning, tolerancing, fit, and function
  • Produce drawings in accordance with industry standards, company standards, and ISO work instructions
  • Generate and enter accurate product structures (bill of materials) into the company enterprise resource planning system (ERP system).
  • Execute assignments in accordance with engineering procedures such as change request/change order and corporate product development process
  • Collaborate with other functional areas including manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, production supervisors, marketing, sales, order entry, etc. in order to research and collect information for the purpose of designing, accurately documenting, and successfully releasing product to production
  • Engage with vendors and customers to gather product information required for design and release
  • Lead or participate in prototype builds, product testing, and test reporting
