  • Ability to utilize CAD/CAE/FEA/CFD tools in conjunction with first principles engineering to optimize designs for performance, simplicity, weight, and cost
  • Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis and integrate design intent using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) on engineering drawings
  • Proven ability to deliver project results on time and on budget
  • Strong desire for entrepreneurial management style and ethical business practices
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 and /or APQP design control procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in manufacturing
  • Experience applying DFM and DFA best practices to injection-molded/casted elements and plastics
  • Experience with the full product development lifecycle preferred (problem id, ideation, prototype, engineering design, transfer to manufacturing, sustainable engineering)
  • Strong foundational knowledge of problem-solving, manufacturing processes, process control, design of experiments, and simulation techniques
  • Proficient in NPI model (POC, EVT, DVT, PVT), design failure mode effect analysis (DFMEA), design for manufacture (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA) best practices

Nice To Haves

  • A candidate with (or pursuing) a Professional Engineer designation (P. Eng.) is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for activities associated with project scope, concept, detailed design, and preliminary cost analysis in the execution of innovative product design involving electromechanical assemblies
  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and assigned tasks for subsets of larger projects or small projects
  • Utilize CAD/CAE/FEA/CFD to model new designs and produce detailed engineering simulations, drawings and documentation, material part specifications, and bills of materials (BOM)
  • Provide mechanical calculations and design concepts for new projects, process improvements, and repairs/ modifications for electromechanical assemblies
  • Create and maintain technical reports, instructions, documentation, calculations, and drawings
  • Develop and present design solutions, evaluated based on expected performance, manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle
  • Work with regulatory bodies by aligning engineering documentation to achieve product certifications for intrinsic safety, compliance, etc.
  • Design and build prototype parts/assemblies to enable proof of concept testing
  • Coordinate or support activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of custom mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • Work in tandem with electrical, computer, and manufacturing engineers to ensure the functionality and integration of the design solution from concept to mass-production to end-of-life
  • Support the transition from prototyping to mass production by working with all involved stakeholders
  • Provide direction and/or support to the field service technicians as required, and support, mentor, and guide any Jr. Mechanical Engineer(s)
  • Participate in first article inspection (FAI) activities, perform design validation, and present design to the manufacturing engineering team and production
  • Maintain up-to-date engineering knowledge and share potential design improvements/opportunities within the organization as required
  • Develop test processes/procedures/requirements for stress testing, durability, waterproofing, etc.
  • Work with machine shops and other vendors to complete fabrication of prototypes
  • Assist in investigating customer and internal quality issues and implement robust corrective and preventive action plans to improve our products and processes
  • All other projects and duties as assigned
