About The Position

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking highly motivated Mechanical Designers to create design deliverables from design sketches, layouts, and/or concepts in support of manufacture, assembly, and test. The role offers candidates the opportunity to develop their skills through on-the-job experience and continued education to advance in the design profession. The work supports the design, construction, and maintenance of submarines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 6 years of design experience.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprint drawings.
• Demonstrated proficiency in drafting using Computer Aided Design (CAD), with a portfolio.
• Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Strong computer skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft products.
• Ability to perform design-related math functions.
• Ability to read and interpret written instructions and drawings (blueprints).
• Firm understanding of design standards, manufacturing processes, and military specifications, including GD&T.

Nice To Haves

• Vocational high school diploma.
• Two-year technical school or college education.
• Experience with CATIA and/or NX.
• Experience in Design for Six Sigma and Lean Design/Manufacturing.
• NX experience is preferred.
