Mechanical Designer & Lead Builder

Behlen Mfg Co.•Siesta Key, FL

About The Position

The Mechanical Designer / Detailer & Lead Builder serves as a bridge between engineering design and manufacturing execution. Working closely with the Chief of Engineering, this role turns machine concepts, design intent, and engineering requirements into detailed SolidWorks models, manufacturing drawings, bills of material, supplier packages, and production-ready documentation. The role ensures designs can be manufactured, assembled, tested, and commissioned successfully. It provides hands-on leadership throughout machine builds and serves as a key interface among engineering, suppliers, fabrication partners, machine shops, purchasing, and assembly personnel. The position also supports project execution, continuous improvement, quality initiatives, startup, commissioning, factory acceptance testing, customer demonstrations, and field service when required. The role requires work in both office and manufacturing environments, with occasional travel of up to 15% for supplier visits, installations, customer support, and FAT activities. Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, and inspecting equipment for extended periods; occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds; and safely moving through manufacturing facilities and customer sites.
