About The Position

At Motorola Solutions, we are a global community dedicated to enhancing safety through technology. Our Video Division is at the forefront of the security industry, developing innovative end-to-end solutions, including advanced AI-based surveillance systems and video analytics products like Appearance Search and Unusual Motion Detection, along with our cloud service platform. This position is within our fixed video devices mechanical design team, which is responsible for the mechanical hardware design of video security cameras and related devices. The role is based in Vancouver, BC, and requires the candidate to reside in the Greater Vancouver area, working on a hybrid schedule with regular in-office presence.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Proficient experience with CREO or SolidWorks
  • 1+ years of experience with thermal analysis
  • 1+ years of experience in material and manufacturing process selection for mechanical parts
  • Experience performing mechanical strength and tolerance analysis using FEA and other tools
  • Work as a part of the team to support various product design elements of new products
  • Evaluates and recommends changes to techniques and design to find the most effective solution
  • Understand and work with project timelines and deliverables
  • Excellent written and oral communications

Responsibilities

  • Use of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks and Creo) to design parts, assemblies, and mechanisms using a variety of materials and fabrication technologies
  • Estimation of work and cost required to complete proposed tasks and creating and maintaining progress reports
  • Creation of detailed production quality fabrication drawings, design documentation, and assembly drawings for new and existing parts
  • Conceptualization, specification, and development of designs, prototypes, and test fixtures
  • Design parts for injection molding, die casting, sheet metal and machining
  • Mechanical testing and verification of parts/products and report creation
  • Ensure product designs comply with regulatory agency requirements
  • Maintain product documentation and BOMs in PLM (Agile)
  • Work with manufacturing partners to ensure we are releasing high quality, cost effective products for our customers.
  • Work closely with Product or Project Management to specify, develop, and implement successful designs
