The Mechanical Designer 3 works under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead on multidisciplinary engineering and design project teams. The role develops mechanical general arrangement, piping isometric, pipe support, and mechanical equipment layout drawings in a 3-D model, using Hexagon SmartPlant S3D and the SPF database to produce design deliverables, bills of materials, and commodity lists. The designer interprets piping and instrumentation diagrams developed in SPID and creates physical designs that meet engineering requirements. The position leads coordination of detailed design phases across an integrated mechanical design model, resolves model clashes and discrepancies, and coordinates with and guides other designers and project team members. It also independently plans and executes mechanical design deliverables and mentors less experienced drafters and designers. The work schedule is hybrid, with a mix of office and remote work. Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing, including small modular reactors, advanced reactor technology, reactor restarts, existing plant life extensions and digital modernization, coal-to-nuclear conversion initiatives, and international nuclear new-build projects. The position does not provide U.S. work authorization sponsorship.
