The Mechanical Design Technician works within Mechanical Development, creating and modifying 3D parametric models, conducting packaging studies, and producing 2D production drawings. The role defines part designs and mechanical concepts, applies plastic molding and Valeo design rules, and coordinates with tooling engineers and suppliers on tooling feasibility. It also includes simulation and tolerance analysis, management of design data and bills of materials, and validation of release readiness and engineering change requests.

Requirements

  • Catia design experience is preferred; experience with other design software will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate's degree in a technical field is preferred; experience in lieu of education will be considered.
  • Catia design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Execute 3D parametric models, modifications, packaging studies, and 2D production drawings.
  • Define overall part design, mechanical concepts, and primary component sizing.
  • Apply plastic molding and Valeo design rules, including draft angles, wall thickness, and parting lines, using provided checklists and guidelines.
  • Negotiate tooling feasibility with tooling engineers and suppliers, and promote standardization.
  • Run clearance and interference checks and standard section cuts.
  • Own structural and thermal simulations (FEA), worst-case tolerance stacks, and design sign-offs.
  • Manage file check-in/check-out, PDM/PLM lifecycle states, and BOM accuracy.
  • Validate release readiness, baseline milestones, and customer engineering change requests (ECR).
