About The Position

Fameccanica North America is establishing a new Robotics & Automation Engineering Hub in Middleton, MA, and is seeking a Mechanical Design Project Leader to play a key role in its development. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a small, impactful team from its inception, influencing project execution, system design, and team operations, while leveraging the resources of a global organization. The ideal candidate will be motivated by ownership, engaging engineering challenges, and the process of bringing designs to fruition.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of mechanical design experience in automation, robotics, or machinery
• Experience leading or coordinating technical projects
• Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, or similar)
• Ability to balance hands-on design work with project leadership
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort in a fast-paced environment
• Clear communication across teams, functions, and, at times, with clients

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for robotics and automation projects
• Coordinate engineering work across mechanical, electrical, and software teams
• Manage projects from concept and design through build, testing, and delivery
• Support assembly and testing by troubleshooting design issues in real time
• Help develop project plans, schedules, and technical proposals
• Mentor junior engineers and support team growth
• Join client discussions, design reviews, and key project milestones
