About The Position

Duke Energy is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern for the Summer 2026 session. This role is located at the Harris Nuclear Plant in New Hill, NC. The intern will assist in developing mechanical engineering solutions for plant equipment upgrade projects, including scoping and developing design packages for plant modifications. Responsibilities also include performing mechanical calculations, preparing technical reports, documentation, and sketches. The candidate should have knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

Enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Must not graduate prior to August 2026.
Cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Nice To Haves

Cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.
Previous engineering work experience.
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assist in the development of mechanical engineering specific solutions in support of design packages for plant equipment upgrade projects.
Assist in scoping and development of design packages for plant modifications.
Develop mechanical calculations to support design changes.
Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, documentation, and sketches associated with the resolution of technical problems.
