About The Position

KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and we invest 15% of sales back into R&D. Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world’s leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow’s electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us. With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design through greater chemical process control is KLA's ECI Technology division. ECI is an industry leader of in-process chemistry control, providing the precision of analysis the industry requires for consistent wafer quality while reducing chip feature size. Advanced wafer design drives the need for precision with reliability; ECI strives to lead the design of analytical equipment which can withstand the rigorous demands of the chemical processes for damascene, wafer-level packaging, clean and wet etch processes, with our Prima, Libra, Quanta and QualiSurf product lines. Successful Mechanical Design Engineer will work in the Mechanical Department of KLA ECI division based in Totowa, NJ. Will be responsible for the design process of mechanical part of new systems, including conceptual and detailed design using CAD systems (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD), detailed drawings, design review presentations.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of experience developing electromechanical products from concept through production and sustaining.
  • Advanced 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent) including top-down assembly design, robust drawings/GD&T, and tolerance stack-up.
  • Demonstrated DFM/DFA experience for sheet metal, plastics, machined parts, and purchased components.
  • Experience designing fluid-handling systems (pumps, valves, tubing, fittings) including routing best practices, leak mitigation, chemical compatibility, and clean/service-friendly layouts.
  • Opportunities to integrate sensitive components (optics/opto-mechanics, spectrometers, light sources, electrodes, motors/actuators) with alignment strategies, fixture concepts, and vibration/thermal considerations.
  • Strong requirements management skills: translating customer needs into clear mechanical requirements, interfaces, and verification plans with traceability.
  • BOM/configuration management experience (variants/options, alternates, obsolescence mitigation) using PLM/ERP tools (e.g., Enovia, Windchill, Teamcenter, SAP).
  • Proven ability to generate complete release documentation packages (drawings, work instructions, service/installation docs, labeling) and to work within regulated or standard-driven environments.
  • Experience leading design reviews (concept and detailed) and applying structured risk tools (DFMEA, hazard/risk analyses) with clear action closure.
  • Experience driving the engineering change control (ECO/CO/ECN), maintaining accurate revision history and as-built/as-released traceability in a PLM/ERP system, including impact assessment and documentation updates.
  • Cross-functional leadership skills: effective collaboration with electrical, software, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, and service organizations to resolve integration issues.
  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects/programs for the new analyzer and dosing system variants, owning mechanical scope from requirements through release and post-release support.
  • Independently develop and review 3D CAD models, assemblies, and layouts; ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and scalable across product variants.
  • Own and review flow diagrams derived from customer requirements and engineering specifications; ensure traceability to mechanical design decisions, interfaces, and verification plans.
  • Lead design and integration of complex assemblies (pumps, valves, tubing, fittings, spectrometers, light sources, optical components, electrodes, motors), defining robust mechanical interfaces, alignment/fixture strategies, and serviceability requirements.
  • Architect and manage complex customizations for different chemistries, multiple tank configurations, and special facility requirements; translate constraints into clear design requirements and interface definitions.
  • Own BOM integrity for systems and options (configuration rules, variant control, alternates, obsolescence mitigation, and cost-reduction opportunities).
  • Generate and/or approve complete documentation packages for release (drawings, installation and service documentation, configuration documentation, work instructions, labeling, and supporting engineering documents), ensuring compliance to internal standards.
  • Drive and facilitate design reviews (concept, detailed design, DFMEA/risk reviews where applicable), capturing actions and ensuring closure.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with electrical, software, R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, regulatory/compliance, and service teams to resolve integration issues and ensure readiness for production and field deployment.
  • Develop test/verification approaches with stakeholders; support build, integration, and qualification activities; analyze failures and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Own change management for complex or high-impact updates (CO/ECO/ECN), including impact assessments (cost, inventory, service, documentation, and field retrofit considerations).
