About The Position

Delta Star Inc. is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to provide engineering leadership and design support for the mechanical components of medium voltage, mobile power transformers, and mobile substations. The role involves designing, verifying, and supporting the mechanical aspects of transformer production, from generating 3D designs to creating shop drawings and ensuring design accuracy, to deliver high-quality transformers that align with industry standards and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of combined experience in power transformer design and engineering, with at least 2 years focused on mechanical design (for Mechanical Design Engineer role).
  • 8+ years of combined experience in power transformer design and engineering, with at least 7 years focused on mechanical design (for Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer role).
  • Able to check and verify designs.
  • Must live or be willing to relocate to within a reasonable safe commute to the assigned plant location.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer for U.S. based positions.
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • In-depth knowledge of power transformer design, materials, and standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D core and coil designs using EAP, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Create internal core, coil, and layout shop drawings and verify for accuracy.
  • Design internal woodwork structures and perform 3D lead routing using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Develop internal connection diagrams based on transformer nameplates.
  • Produce material usage files for ERP system analysis and material ordering.
  • Provide production support by addressing missing dimensions, details, and auxiliary views.
  • Long-term responsibilities include designing external transformer parts, creating tank drawings, and programming plasma and wood routing machines.
