Mechanical Design Engineer, C-UAS/EW

Level Up Talent•Orlando, FL

About The Position

Moodro is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to own mechanical design from initial concept through prototyping, testing, and production readiness. The role focuses on enclosures, mounts, assemblies, and electronics integration components for rugged, field-deployed electronic and RF systems. Designs must address thermal management, ventilation, sealing, dust and moisture protection, shock, vibration, and demanding operating environments. The engineer will create and maintain CAD models, drawings, specifications, bills of materials, flat patterns, and assembly documentation. They will build and evaluate prototypes, support environmental and field testing, incorporate test results and manufacturing feedback into iterative improvements, and apply DFM/DFA principles to prepare designs for reliable, cost-effective volume production. The role collaborates with hardware, embedded, RF, R&D, manufacturing, suppliers, and contract manufacturers. Mechanical design, documentation, and production readiness are owned by this role; electronic and software aspects are owned by other engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer working on hardware products.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or a comparable CAD platform.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enclosures, mounts, and mechanical assemblies for electronic devices.
  • Ability to produce 3D models, drawings, specifications, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
  • Strong understanding of materials, fasteners, tolerances, fits, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and preparing designs for volume production.
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams, contract manufacturers, or suppliers.
  • Experience preparing complete production release packages for contract manufacturers for serial production, including a complete BOM, assembly drawings, Gerber files, fabrication (FAB) notes, and testing requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to engineering work.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RF, embedded, telecommunications, field-deployed, or defense systems.
  • Experience with counter-UAS (C-UAS), electronic warfare (EW), unmanned systems, or other advanced defense technologies.
  • Knowledge of ingress protection (IP ratings), sealing, thermal management, and EMC/EMI design.
  • Familiarity with ruggedization and environmental test standards such as MIL-STD-810.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal, 3D printing, CNC machining, or laser cutting.
  • Technical leadership experience or experience leading design reviews.
  • Experience supporting an early-stage or rapidly scaling technology company.
  • Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Responsibilities

  • Design enclosures, housings, brackets, mounts, mechanical assemblies, and electronics integration components for electronic, RF, and integrated systems.
  • Design for integration of PCBs, antennas, cabling, connectors, power systems, and other electronic components.
  • Develop cooling and ventilation solutions for sealed and high-power electronic systems.
  • Design for ingress protection, sealing, and environmental durability, including protection from dust, water, shock, vibration, transport, and rough handling.
  • Select suitable materials, fasteners, finishes, and manufacturing processes; define tolerances and fits for reliable assembly and consistent performance.
  • Ensure designs are reliable, serviceable, and easy to operate in field environments.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and assemblies, detailed part and assembly drawings, specifications, BOMs, flat patterns, and assembly instructions.
  • Maintain revision control and review engineering documentation for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Own mechanical designs from first model through prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and production release.
  • Build, assemble, and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal, and laser cutting.
  • Support environmental, durability, and field testing of prototypes and product releases.
  • Analyze test results and field feedback, identify root causes of mechanical issues, and implement design changes.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to reduce cost, simplify assembly, improve manufacturing yield, and prepare designs for volume production.
  • Release documentation to production, support transition to volume manufacturing, and manage engineering changes without compromising performance or reliability.
  • Collaborate with R&D, hardware, embedded, RF, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated products and balance mechanical, thermal, RF, and electrical requirements.
  • Work with contract manufacturers and suppliers on fabrication, quotations, quality issues, and manufacturability feedback.
  • Participate in design reviews and maintain a continuous design-to-prototype-to-test-to-production improvement cycle.
