Mechanical Design Engineer, C-UAS/EW

Level Up Talent•Orlando, FL

About The Position

Moodro is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer for its R&D team. The engineer will own mechanical design from initial concept through prototyping, testing, and production release, creating robust solutions for advanced electronic and RF systems used in demanding field environments. The role focuses primarily on mechanical design, analysis, and engineering documentation, with regular hands-on prototype building and testing and collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing partners. The engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, documentation, and production readiness of Moodro products and systems, including enclosures, mounts, assemblies, and electronics-integration components. Designs must address thermal management, ventilation, sealing, ingress protection, shock, vibration, durability, serviceability, and manufacturability. The engineer will create and maintain CAD models, drawings, specifications, bills of materials, flat patterns, and assembly documentation; incorporate testing, field feedback, and manufacturing input into design improvements; and apply DFM/DFA principles to support reliable, cost-effective volume production. The role works closely with hardware, embedded, RF, R&D, and manufacturing teams, which own or contribute to the electronic and software aspects of the products. The Mechanical Design Engineer owns mechanical design quality and production readiness, and works with contract manufacturers and suppliers on fabrication, quotes, and quality issues. Applicants are asked to include examples of work—such as 3D models, drawings, flat patterns, or other technical documentation—with confidential or proprietary information removed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer working on hardware products.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or a comparable CAD platform.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enclosures, mounts, and mechanical assemblies for electronic devices.
  • Ability to produce 3D models, drawings, specifications, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
  • Strong understanding of materials, fasteners, tolerances, fits, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and preparing designs for volume production.
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams, contract manufacturers, or suppliers.
  • Experience preparing complete production release packages for contract manufacturers for serial production, including a complete BOM, assembly drawings, Gerber files, fabrication (FAB) notes, and testing requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to engineering work.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RF, embedded, telecommunications, field-deployed, or defense systems.
  • Experience with counter-UAS (C-UAS), electronic warfare (EW), unmanned systems, or other advanced defense technologies.
  • Knowledge of ingress protection (IP ratings), sealing, thermal management, and EMC/EMI design.
  • Familiarity with ruggedization and environmental test standards such as MIL-STD-810.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal, 3D printing, CNC machining, or laser cutting.
  • Technical leadership experience or experience leading design reviews.
  • Experience supporting an early-stage or rapidly scaling technology company.
  • Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Responsibilities

  • Design enclosures, housings, brackets, mounts, and mechanical assemblies for electronic, RF, and integrated systems.
  • Design for integration of PCBs, antennas, cabling, connectors, power systems, and other electronic components.
  • Develop cooling and ventilation solutions for sealed and high-power electronic systems.
  • Design for dust and water protection, sealing, and environmental durability.
  • Engineer structures and assemblies to withstand shock, vibration, transport, and rough field handling.
  • Select materials, fasteners, finishes, and manufacturing processes; define tolerances and fits.
  • Ensure designs are reliable, serviceable, and easy to operate in demanding field environments.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and assemblies, detailed part and assembly drawings, specifications, BOMs, sheet-metal flat patterns, and assembly instructions.
  • Maintain revision control and review documentation for quality, accuracy, and completeness before release.
  • Own mechanical designs from initial modeling through prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and production release.
  • Build, assemble, and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal, and laser cutting.
  • Support environmental, durability, and field testing of prototypes and product releases.
  • Analyze test results and field feedback, identify root causes of mechanical issues, and implement design changes.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to reduce cost, simplify assembly, improve manufacturing yield, and prepare designs for volume production.
  • Release documentation to production and support transition from prototype to volume manufacturing.
  • Manage engineering changes without compromising product performance or reliability.
  • Collaborate with R&D, hardware, embedded, RF, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated products and balance mechanical, thermal, RF, and electrical requirements.
  • Work with contract manufacturers and suppliers on fabrication, quotes, quality issues, and design manufacturability.
  • Participate in design reviews and maintain a continuous design-prototype-test-production improvement cycle.
  • Provide examples of work with the application, with confidential or proprietary information removed.
