We are looking for a passionate and driven Mechanical Design Engineer (Engineering Specialist – Mechanical Engineering) to join our experienced team. You will conceptualize, design, and develop innovative mechanical systems – shepherding them from ideation through final production, assembly and test. This position is located in El Segundo, CA., requiring at least 4 days onsite.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (eg., Solidworks, NX, or Creo)
- Proficient in creating machine drawings using GD&T
- Experience working on full lifecycle of hardware prototypes, from concept to test
- Hands-on experience with FEA software packages
- Familiarity with conventional machining processes and design for manufacturing
- Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately once per year) to work locations worldwide
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with systems engineering processes, including verification and validation
- Advanced proficiency using FEA software packages
- Experience with mechanism or optomechanical design
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of mechanical systems for space, air and ground-based sensors, and systems
- Perform basic structural analysis using finite element modeling and analysis (FEA) tools
- Create detailed machine drawings using GD&T
- Assemble and test mechanical systems and hardware prototypes
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop requirements and interfaces
- Work both independently and under the direction of systems engineering, project management, and scientific staff
