About The Position

This role is critical to Framatome's mission of creating lasting solutions for the planet's greatest challenges through nuclear energy. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of complex engineered cast components used in demanding, highly regulated applications. This position requires collaboration with both off-site metallic casting suppliers and an on-site machine shop, maintaining design control, and evaluating nonconformances from manufacturing upsets. The ideal candidate will enjoy taking a component from concept through manufacturing, solving challenging design problems, and seeing their designs become reality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (degrees in Physics, Engineering Technology and Engineering Science may also be accepted depending on the position).
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria.
  • Good communication skills to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships; work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Displays informal leadership characteristics.
  • Exhibits questioning attitude and practices self-checking.
  • Advanced proficiency with specialized software tools and programming languages as required by the role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, improve, and develop complex metallic cast components from concept through production.
  • Apply engineering analysis and sound design principles to improve performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Work closely with external foundry suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional on-site engineering teams to bring designs to life.
  • Own design control activities including drawings, specifications, engineering changes, and technical documentation.
  • Investigate manufacturing and field issues, identify root causes, and develop robust engineering solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in both product design and engineering processes.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical leadership on key projects.
