About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an Experienced Design Engineer (Level 3) specializing in Mechanical Flight Controls to join the Out-of-Production (OoP) Mechanical (Mech) Systems Design Engineering (DE) team in Seal Beach, CA. This role is crucial for ensuring aircraft safety and compliance with FAA regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of design principles, aircraft performance, and regulatory requirements to maintain the highest safety standards for our aircraft.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 5+ years of experience in related engineering roles (Mechanical Flight Controls within the aerospace industry, specifically in commercial airplane programs).
  • 2+ years of experience using CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and/or DELMIA.
  • 2+ years of experience with commercial aircraft programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Responsible Engineer on Continued Operational Safety Program (COSP) and Safety Related Problem (SRP) projects, working with the OoP Chief Program Engineer (CPE) office.
  • Provide support to BCA Production, BGS Modifications, the BGS Boeing Converted Freighter program, and Engineering changes for OoP aircraft.
  • Support BGS Spares (ELRs, SDTs and Interchangeabilities).
  • Deliver design solutions to the Service Engineering team for BCS and other fleet issues.
  • Perform new detail design and troubleshoot/resolve in-service issues.
  • Support the development and documentation of Airplane components such as gearboxes, cable system components, pilot controls (e.g., column, wheel, rudder pedals, switches), torque tubes, linkages, ball-screws, and various sensor types.
  • Engage in mechanical engineering for Flight Controls and Mechanical Systems, including Primary Flight Controls (e.g., pilot controls, elevators, horizontal stabilizer, rudder, ailerons, and spoilers/speed-brakes) and High Lift Systems (e.g., leading edge flaps or slats, and trailing edge flaps).
  • Collaborate with other organizations such as Aerodynamics Performance and Stability & Control, Structures, Flight Deck Crew Operations, Pilots, Electrical Systems, Systems Stress, Customer Services & Airline Customers, Factory and Flight Line Operations, Supplier Management, and Airplane Safety to ensure world-class Mechanical Systems.
  • Define requirements, conduct various analyses, use CAD/CAM systems like CATIA, and perform math modeling with tools such as Simulink and EASY5.
  • Conduct or participate in design reviews as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), formulate paths forward with findings, and prepare technical presentations for executive review boards on potential safety items.
  • Engage in supplier coordination, define verification methods (e.g., component, system-level, and airplane-level testing), and participate in that testing.
  • Participate in activities related to the certification of Boeing products with regulatory agencies.
