UCT is looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer II to join us in Phoenix, AZ! As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you'll be a key member of a cross-functional team focused on designing tooling, jigs, and equipment tailored for processes involving various chemicals and coatings. You’ll ensure designs meet stringent requirements for safety, ergonomics, cost efficiency, product performance, and structural integrity—while also improving processes and minimizing employee-related failures. The Mechanical Design Engineer is the main point of contact for all production process equipment and associated fixture-related designs, actions and plans. Provides design/build/fixture/handling systems support for a variety of applications globally. Leads efforts in constantly improving equipment yields and performance, accountable for creating fixtures to eliminate preventable injuries during process. Continually develops the skills necessary for sustaining "world class" parts clean engineering services.

Requirements

  • Superior leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • High level troubleshooting skills coupled with hands-on approach to solving problems.
  • Familiarity with "Six Sigma", "Lean Manufacturing" concepts and other process improvement methods and approaches.
  • Knowledge and engineering approach in mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics and chemicals.
  • Ability to read drawings and identify critical quality characteristics.
  • Familiarity with wet chemistry processing, semiconductor tool consumables, semiconductor technology, critical cleaning technology, semiconductor processing, coating technologies, and CAD implementation including failure analysis software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the organization.
  • Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • English writing and verbal communication; knowledge of Mandarin or Korean is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Semi-conductor industry is an advantage.
  • Design for Six Sigma (Preferred)
  • 3 year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create custom tooling, jigs, and fixtures using CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo), ensuring precision, repeatability, and compliance with manufacturability standards.
  • Incorporate material recommendations, cost analysis, GD&T, and tolerance considerations into design decisions.
  • Create a Preventive Maintenance plan for tooling and equipment.
  • Create jigs for coating processes to protect critical surfaces and maintain structural integrity under high temperature applications.
  • Use FEA and other CAD tools to validate mechanical performance under chemical exposure, stress, vibration, or ergonomic constraints.
  • Iterate designs based on simulation data to optimize safety and durability.
  • Ensure all designs facilitate efficient manufacturing—considering fabrication methods (CNC, molding, coatings), assembly, ergonomics, cost, and maintainability.
  • Apply ergonomic principles to reduce operator strain and improve safety.
  • Develops and maintains process equipment requirements and specifications.
  • Develops and maintains process equipment work procedures (preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance).
  • Develops and implement training materials, examinations and certifications regarding process equipment maintenance and operations.
  • Engage with production, quality, procurement, and safety teams to align tooling with process needs and regulatory standards.
  • Support manufacturing by resolving tool-related issues and overseeing repairs or modification.
  • Produce detailed technical drawings, BOMs, ECOs, and maintenance instructions.
  • Maintain design revision history and documentation for safety and regulatory audit purposes.
