About The Position

This team is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Winston-Salem Seating Group. Candidate will conduct product development activities and studies, analyze tests, and produce sketches, parts, and designs, following all appropriate Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards. This role is onsite, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Mechanical design experience using 3D CAD is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical Engineering major/degree.
  • Previous experience using Unigraphics NX and Team Center preferred
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical drawings, engineering schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic CAD model interpretation.
  • Familiarity with various mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, plastic thermoforming, and injection molding practices.
  • Familiarity of aircraft seating and certification requirements.
  • Familiarity of aerospace materials.
  • Demonstrates good communication.
  • Works well in a team and learns quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in product development activities including engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost estimates, implementation of standard and non-standard specifications, drawing board layout and interpretation, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • Work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes.
  • Develop data and make layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • Develop and design detail parts and assemblies for complex programs with weight, machinability/manufacturability, and assembly/servicing in mind.
  • Resolve design problems of simple-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
  • Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and offers solutions for improvements.
  • Apply lessons learned from project-to-project, to further improve product designs.
  • Track and maintain program-specific weight & CG for parts and modules.
  • Support Project Engineers in deliverables for Main Cabin Seating products.
