About The Position

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) opportunity to support the Savannah River Site. This position requires a thorough understanding of Construction Engineering principles and the ability to apply these principles to field conditions. The role involves planning and technical oversight of field construction activities within a specified discipline, including procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components. The engineer will coordinate with Design agencies, review designs for constructability, resolve field design problems, and ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and code requirements. This role also involves coordinating with Quality Control to ensure installation meets requirements.

Requirements

• Experience in the preparation of computer-based construction work execution plans (Work Packages) including job specific hazards analysis, i.e. Asset Suite and Assisted Hazard Analysis or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction Mechanical field engineering OR Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5-10 years of practical experience in construction Mechanical Engineering OR High school diploma and 10+ years of practical experience in construction Mechanical Engineering.
• Previous experience with generating work execution plans (preferably utilizing the Asset Suite work control system).
• Working knowledge of discipline specific codes and standards.
• Previous experience with generating job hazards analysis.
• Previous experience performing material take off and procurement.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Participate in turnover activities.
• Support and participate in the start-up and functional check out of equipment and systems.
• Plan and provide technical oversight of field construction activities within a specified discipline associated with procurement, fabrication, installation, modification and maintenance of systems and components.
• Coordinate with Design agencies to ensure timely issuance of new design or design changes.
• Walk-down and review designs for constructability.
• Resolve design problems encountered in the field during construction and meet with and discuss solutions with Design Engineers.
• Inspect/verify materials, equipment, and construction workmanship and assure compliance with drawings, specifications and code requirements.
• Coordinate with Quality Control to ensure the installation meets the requirements.
• Perform design output constructability reviews, including reviewing design output and vendor documents, field walk-downs with design engineers, verifying design constructability, procedure and code compliance, and verifying field conditions vs. design output.
• Submit constructability comments and track comments to resolution.
• Support project team design review meetings.
• Develop/expedite bill of materials (BOM) and track the progress/status of material delivery.
• Coordinate delivery of material to the field and verify received material vs. ordered material.
• Walk-downs with craft supervision & support groups to develop installation sequence.
• Generate work instructions, inspection and test records or coordinate with quality control.
• Understand layout/survey needs and generate layout/survey requests.
• Generate hazards analysis for field execution of construction scope and support/lead team hazard analysis review meetings.
• Generate or support the generation of job specific permits as required (Lockout/tagout order, Power services, utilization, permit, Hot work, Asbestos disturbance, Confined space, Radiological, Excavation, Hazardous waste).
• Attend/chair execution plan review meetings.
• Develop routing for list for hazards analysis approval and develop routing list for work plan approval.
• Coordinate and expedite work package approval routing and disposition comments to the work execution plan.
• Assemble approved work execution plan.
• Provide status & update of work execution plan in the SRS work control passport system.
• Lead pre-job briefings with craft workers.
• Perform task ready walk-down with craft supervision.
• Verify quantities of installed commodities.
• Coordinate daily field support.
• Expedite / order material as required.
• Coordinate material testing.
• Coordinate and status shop fabrication in support of field execution.
• Perform field inspections.
• Identify and coordinate resolution of field installation issues.
• Generate design completion notices.
• Ensure accuracy of work execution plan status.
• Close all required permits.
• Close work execution plan documentation.
