About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support the planning and execution of commissioning activities for a data center project. This position will be responsible for developing mechanical commissioning scripts and associated test documentation for critical cooling, engine powered generators and support systems, while also supporting facility systemization, completions, execution planning, walkdowns, and field leadership during site execution. The role is expected to work in a hybrid arrangement during the planning and mobilization phase and then transition to site in 1Q27. Candidates should bring strong technical writing skills, practical commissioning judgment, and the ability to coordinate with project management, design teams, contractors, OEMs, TAB personnel, controls teams, and operations stakeholders in a mission critical environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in mechanical commissioning, startup, testing, operations, construction support, or related field execution for complex facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of data center or commercial and industrial mechanical systems, such as chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC equipment, pumps, cooling towers or fluid coolers, ventilation, and controls interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engine back-up power generation units to support integrated power system testing and commissioning coordination.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, control diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment layouts, vendor documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of national and Texas regulatory requirements relevant to commissioning execution, mechanical safety, hazardous energy control, and construction/startup coordination.
  • Ability to travel and mobilize to Temple, Texas for site execution in 1Q27.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and for the duration of employment. Employer sponsorship of work visas is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting data center commissioning or other mission critical facilities.
  • Understanding of LEED concepts, documentation expectations, and sustainability-related commissioning deliverables.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE guidance applicable to mission critical environments and data center thermal performance expectations.
  • Experience using completions or turnover management systems for checksheet assignment, system tracking, and handover progress reporting.
  • Knowledge of site execution leadership, field issue resolution, and management of commissioning teams during startup and integrated testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed mechanical commissioning scripts, functional test procedures, readiness plans, and turnover documentation for critical cooling and support systems.
  • Support facility systemization and subsystem definition, including boundary development, mechanical system breakdown structure, and alignment with the overall turnover strategy.
  • Assist with checksheet assignment in the completions system to support disciplined handover, punch closure, and commissioning progression tracking.
  • Help develop the commissioning execution plan, including test sequencing, prerequisite management, flushing and cleanliness planning, vendor support needs, and schedule alignment.
  • Participate in system walkdowns during execution, verify field readiness, identify deficiencies, and support closeout of outstanding construction and pre-commissioning items.
  • Help manage commissioning execution at site, including daily interface with contractors, OEMs, TAB personnel, controls teams, and owner representatives.
  • Review P&IDs, equipment submittals, sequences of operation, specifications, vendor manuals, and controls documentation to ensure technically sound script development.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure commissioning scripts clearly identify prerequisites, hold points, safe conditions, required instrumentation, expected outcomes, failure response, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support integrated systems testing and interface verification with electrical, controls, EPMS, BMS, and operations teams.
