About The Position

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Data Centers. This role is based out of Richmond, VA. The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical design activities for Data Center Power Systems products. This role owns projects from concept through production release and provides technical leadership in structural design, thermal management, product compliance, and manufacturability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience.
  • Experience designing industrial equipment, electrical enclosures, switchgear, power distribution products, or similar equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and production manufacturing methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Data Center Power Distribution products.
  • Working knowledge of UL 50, UL 891, UL 1008, and NEC requirements affecting mechanical design.
  • Experience with thermal modeling and airflow optimization.
  • Experience performing structural and vibration analysis.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Experience supporting product certification and compliance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and development of PDU, RPP, and STS product platforms.
  • Design and optimize enclosure systems, bus support structures, internal assemblies, and mounting architectures.
  • Perform mechanical analysis, tolerance studies, thermal evaluations, and structural assessments.
  • Lead design reviews and technical decision-making activities.
  • Develop solutions that improve product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost.
  • Support certification and compliance requirements.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, operations, quality, sourcing, and service teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical development.
  • Lead subsystem and platform-level mechanical design decisions.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and design for serviceability initiatives.
  • Mentor developing engineers and provide technical guidance.
