About The Position

Rubicon Technical Services provides engineering, technical, and project support services for complex and mission-critical environments. Our capabilities span commissioning, construction management, project management, quality assurance/quality control, operations, and maintenance. We support clients on technically demanding projects where safety, reliability, quality, and operational readiness are essential. We are currently hiring Mechanical Commissioning Engineers to support large-scale data center and mission-critical projects across the United States.

Requirements

5+ years of mechanical commissioning experience, preferably on mission-critical, hyperscale, or data center projects.
Strong understanding of data center cooling architectures, redundancy strategies, and critical mechanical infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, pumps, valves, heat rejection equipment, controls, and BMS interfaces.
Experience with commissioning methodologies, FAT, SAT, TAB, Functional Performance Testing, and Integrated Systems Testing.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, equipment documentation, and sequences of operation.
Working knowledge of applicable mechanical and safety standards, including ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA, and relevant local codes.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to identify system performance issues and coordinate corrective actions.
Excellent documentation, communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, vendors, and clients.
Ability to work in live, high-availability, and mission-critical data center environments.
Willingness to travel and work on project sites as required.

Responsibilities

Plan, execute, and manage commissioning activities for data center mechanical systems in accordance with approved commissioning plans, project specifications, and client requirements.
Review mechanical designs, specifications, sequences of operation, equipment documentation, and commissioning procedures.
Commission HVAC and mechanical systems, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, pumps, heat rejection systems, and associated equipment.
Oversee testing of chilled water, condenser water, fuel oil, and other mechanical systems, including flushing, cleaning, pressure testing, and chemical treatment.
Verify air and water balancing (TAB) and confirm system performance under both design and part-load operating conditions.
Coordinate and witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), pre-functional checks, and Functional Performance Testing (FPT).
Participate in Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and coordinate testing activities with electrical, controls, BMS, and other commissioning teams.
Review test results and identify deficiencies, operational issues, and performance gaps.
Maintain and manage commissioning punch lists and verify completion of corrective actions.
Prepare commissioning reports, test records, deficiency logs, turnover documentation, and final handover packages.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, consultants, clients, and project management teams throughout the commissioning process.
Support client training, operational readiness, system turnover, and facility handover activities.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure commissioning activities are completed in accordance with project schedules and quality requirements.
You have the authority to stop work when you identify an unsafe work practice that could result in injury, environmental impact, equipment damage, or risk to personnel.
Perform all duties in accordance with applicable Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements.
Follow established safety procedures, site rules, lockout/tagout requirements, and permit-to-work systems.
Promote a strong safety culture and communicate potential hazards promptly to the appropriate project personnel.
Ensure commissioning activities comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements.
