About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Plumbing Designer with a passion for BIM to join their team. This role is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centers and all associated equipment. The Mechanical BIM team designs complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon-owned Data Center facilities, providing support to the Central Engineering Team through the preparation of Mechanical & Plumbing BIM models, construction documents, and leveraging BIM data. The role influences Data Center design documents for various systems including Air Handling Units, Cooling Towers, Chillers, Control Systems, Fire Detection/Suppression systems, and Piping and Plumbing systems. The position also involves producing, maintaining, and publishing permit Mechanical Engineering drawing sets for the fleet of Data Centers. Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • 4+ years’ experience using Revit for producing Mechanical & Plumbing engineering BIM models and construction drawings.
  • 5+ years of design/engineering experience of Mechanical & Plumbing building systems for mission critical facilities.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of Mechanical & Plumbing codes (IPC, or UPC) and safety regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with process design based on Lean Principles
  • Experience observing construction, familiar with construction technology, familiar with construction practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience directly related to Data Center design and construction.
  • Experience and knowledge applying Lean principles to design modeling and drawing production.
  • Experience with developing Revit Family content.
  • Use of the following software tools: Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Dynamo, RF Tools, and awareness of Procore.

Responsibilities

  • Designing the Mechanical and Plumbing systems of Data Centers, and utilizing Revit to create and maintain BIM models.
  • Working independently and within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks, including collaboration with internal groups, external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Being self-motivated and working within the MEP group as well as within other teams.
  • Preparing and developing detailed Revit models of Mechanical & Plumbing building systems.
  • Developing & publishing construction documentation for Mechanical & Plumbing building systems designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
  • Updating and modifying existing models and construction documents as required.
  • Assisting with creating and maintaining standard regional BIM templates.
  • Participating in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
  • Working on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Assisting the project team with information exchange processes between internal and external customers.
  • Providing coordination support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Recording and reporting of key metrics to management.
  • Traveling to Data Center sites for Engineering evaluations and surveys as required (On average once or twice a year).
  • Being positive and always offering creative, out of the box solutions.
  • Collaborating across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs.
  • Creating detailed models, drawings, specifications, and prototypes.
  • Updating managers and leaders of changes to the building design.
  • Engaging in design discussions, reviewing feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjusting designs to ensure data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
